Students Takeover College Management

Winstanley College took part in the #TakeoverChallenge which took place nationally on Friday 24th November.

The college’s Senior Management Team handed over the reins to students Daniel Hurst (Principal), Trinity Halstead (Vice Principal), Charys Gill (Head of Curriculum), Ryan Kershaw (Finance Director) and Nathan Barnes (Support Services Director).

The students, who put themselves forward for the roles, were not shadowing their counterparts but attending real meetings, making decisions and carrying out the day to day requirements of each role.

This year is the tenth anniversary of the Takeover Challenge, originally launched in 2007 by the Children’s Commissioner’s Office as a fun, imaginative and exciting activity to encourage organisations across England to open their doors to young people to take over adult roles.

In the last two years alone, nearly 100,000 children have taken part – stepping into the shoes of a wide range of adult jobs including everything from MPs, mayors, TV presenters and teachers, to chief executives, business leaders and government officials.

The student Senior Management Team ran the college very successfully, with Principal Louise Tipping, commenting: ‘our student equivalents did fantastically well, it was a busy day with lots to do but they handled it all like pros. If we ever need a stand in again, we know who to call!’
